Susan “Sue” M. Poellinger, 66, of French Island, Wis., passed away, in her home, on Thursday, July 30, 2020 after a strong seven-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was born in La Crosse on July 2, 1954 to Ronald and Janice (Vanderzee) Mattie.
Sue graduated from Logan High School in 1972 and went on to graduate with an associate’s degree from Western Technical College. She married Bill Poellinger on Aug. 24, 1974 in La Crosse. Her and Bill spent 3 years in England with the air force and she worked as a legal secretary for the La Crosse District Attorney for 35 years. Sue enjoyed numerous vacations with her grandchildren out west, was an avid participant in YMCA activities, enjoyed shopping and tending flowers outside her home.
She is survived by her husband Bill Poellinger; grandmother Elsie Mattie; father Ronald Mattie; grandchildren Kassidy and Julian Poellinger; sisters Deborah (Don) Peterson and Vicki (Scott) Sheehan; sisters-in-law Teresa Olson and Susie (Rich) Thompson; brother-in-law Steve (Brandi) Poellinger; Teri (Chris) Banks, and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her sons Brian and Shawn; mother Janice; grandfather Archie; sister Lori; mother-in-law and father-in-law William and Mary Poellinger; brother-in-law George Olson, and her niece Laura Olson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gundersen Hospice.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services are going to be held.
Memorials are preferred to New Horizons.
