Ruth M. Gilbertson

Ruth Marie Gilbertson (West), 94 years old, of Onalaska, WI, passed away peacefully, at the Onalaska Care Center, on May 4, 2019.  She was born on October 10, 1924 to Henry and Selma (Severson) West, in Mindoro, WI.  She married Ernest C. Gilbertson, on October 5, 1946.  Ruth worked at the Federal Bakery, in La Crosse, WI and Holmen Bakery, in Holmen, WI. She was also a La Crosse County Caregiver and assisted many elderly people.  She and Ernie worked together at surrounding Retirement Homes as service providers.  Ruth’s main job was a homemaker.  With a heart of gold, beautiful inside and out, she was a very talented woman who enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking.  Her passion was dancing and she and Ernie loved to dance and now they are dancing in heaven.  They also loved camping and made several road trips over the years out to California to visit Ruth’s sister Kay and her family.

Ruth is survived by her Sister Yvonne Meyer (Henry), of Onalaska, WI; children, Son Dennis Gilbertson (Madonna), of Mindoro, WI, Daughter, Darla Anderson, of Fredericksburg, VA and Daughter-Like-Niece, Aletta Peterson (Kenneth), of Holmen, WI; grandchildren, Amy Peterson (Jason), of West Salem, WI, Sara Pipkorn (Mark), of New Holstein, WI and Rebecca Solberg (Theron) of Ettrick, WI; eight lovely great grandchildren, Bailee, Regan, Mya, Sydney, Sybil, Sloane, Delilah and Pierce and many Nieces and Nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Selma; husband, Ernest Gilbertson; brothers, Henry Jr., Stanley (Lois), Samuel (Doris) and Harry; sisters, Constance (Donald), Betty and Katherine (William).  Also, a special thank you to the Onalaska Care Center for all their care and attention for Ruth.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2019 in First Lutheran Church, 410 Main St, Onalaska, WI, with visitation at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jason Stanton will officiate with burial to be held in Onalaska City Cemetery.
