Ruth A. Smith

Ruth A. Smith, 79, of La Crosse, WI died on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Riverside Transitional Care Center in La Crosse, WI.

Ruth Ann Groeschel was born on the family farm in Vernon County, WI to Albert and Christina (Zink) Groeschel. She moved to Stoddard as a child and graduated from Desoto High School. Ruth worked as a seamstress for various area companies and worked in the maintenance department at Gundersen Health System for many years. She was a very selfless person who would do anything for anybody. Ruth loved her son, nieces, nephews, Elvis Presley, and all animals, especially cats.

She is survived by her son, Chris of La Crosse; sister, Emily (Willy) Culver of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings: Glen, Dorothy, Mildred, Charles; one niece and one nephew.

The family prefers memorials directed to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or to the donor’s choice. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bethany Riverside for the wonderful care that they gave to Ruth.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. South, La Crosse. A prayer service will follow at the conclusion of the visitation.
