Roy Lowell Erickson

October 12, 1955 — April 2, 2024

LaCrosse

Roy L. Erickson, 68, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at home after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma. His wife of 44 years held his hand as he took his last breath. He was born on October 12, 1955, in LaCrescent, MN, to Lowell and Mary (Diekrager) Erickson. He married Mag Foley on October 13, 1979, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse.

Roy graduated from Central High School in 1974, and that is where he met the love of his life Mag on February 18, 1972. They were married 44 years. Roy being a carpenter, which he learned from his dad, built their family home with his brothers, family, and friends. He worked 49 years for Badger Corrugating before retiring in December 2022.

Roy enjoyed golfing with his boys, traveling up North to the North shore to watch the big cargo ships coming into port. He could often be found enjoying time on a back patio or watching the packers play. He was perhaps the happiest when he was working on a family project like building a garage, a deck or simply putting something together. He was always generous with his time and his knowledge, helping anyone that asked for it. In his downtime from large projects, he could be found in his favorite spot on the couch sipping coffee and working a sudoku puzzle. Roy always had a smile on his face and never once passed up an opportunity to spend time with his family.

Roy and Mag would like to extend their deepest appreciation for his family medicine and oncology medical teams at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse and Onalaska for everything they did during his cancer treatment. They are particularly grateful for the wonderful reception staff at the oncology center that coordinated countless appointments and for the phlebotomy team who provided exceptional compassionate care for them. They got what they wanted most, more time with family.

He is survived by his wife Mag Erickson; two sons, Brian (Laura) and Jacob (Ivy) Erickson; grandchildren Kailee, Landon, and Amelia, and grand dog Winchester. His twin brother Ray Erickson, and brother Ralph (Joellen) Erickson, and many nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
