SNYDER, Robert L.
Robert (Bob) Lee Snyder, 80, of La Crosse passed away Friday May 11, 2018 unexpectedly in his home.
He was born August 16, 1937 in La Crosse, to Carol I. (Gordon) and Lee W. Snyder and was the oldest of 10 children. He attended Logan High School where he graduated in 1955. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Japan. During his time in the military he enjoyed his work as an airplane mechanic. He played Football for the Atsugi Navy Flyers and played in the Sukiyaki Bowl in Okinawa On Dec. 1, 1957. Returning from the Navy he attended University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and played football in 1958 where he also met the love of his life Sharon R. Miller. They were married April 11, 1959. After getting married he fulfilled his love of sports by playing softball for the Glen’s Bar Team and continued to serve his county by also serving in the Air Force reserve for several years. Bob went on to work for Schultz Distributing driving his beer truck around town. He then went on to work for Investors Diversified Services (IDS) and finally settling on his career as a Liquor Salesman for over 25 years while working for Gateco Liquor and Noelke Distributing, INC of La Crosse.
Bob loved his family, many good friends, serving his country, the Green Bay Packers and always loved a good joke. He spent many hours a day communicating with friends via e-mail. He enjoyed his cocktail hour at Flipside Pub and will be missed dearly. Bob enjoyed many cruises and vacations with family and friends to get away from the long Wisconsin winters.
Robert is survived by his daughter Kelley Snyder-Prise; granddaughter, Lindsay (Brad) Ipavec; great-grandson, Vaughn Ipavec; son-in-law, Brent Mann; brothers, David G. (Kathy), William T. (Sue), John P. (Barb) Snyder; sisters, Kay H. Groth, Sally B. Snyder, Peggy J. (Jim) Fadness, Teri Kim Ferguson and Sandra S. Fox; sister-in-law Lorna (Sherman) Thurman; uncle Richard (Norma) Gordon: along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, neighbors and e-mail buddies.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon; daughter, Kathleen M. (Snyder) Mann; sister, Vickie L. Snyder; brother-in-laws, Ralph Groth, Jim (Fergy) Ferguson, Dick Sherman; mother-in-law, Ida Coplien; Uncles; Robert (Jess) Gordon, Paul Snyder (Iona and Georgina); Aunts: Evelyn Snyder, Mae (Jim) Latshaw; and nephew, Brad Snyder.
A memorial service will be held at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave So., La Crosse, Wis., at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Entombment will follow at Oak Grove Mausoleum with military honors provided by Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of memorial.
