Mary Catherine “Kay” Nix, 90, of La Crosse, died on Monday March 29, 2021, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Kay was born October 11, 1930 in Superior, WI. Her parents were Morris and Eleanor (Trisko) Nagle. Kay married Norbert Daley on July 17, 1954. Norbert and Kay had three children, Kim, Norbert and Mary Kay. Husband Norbert died in 1963. In 1969, Kay married Edmund Nix. Together they had two children, Eddy and Michael. Judge Edmund Nix died in 2010.
Kay was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she served as Eucharistic Minister and Usher. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and Women’s Club, St Francis Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters. She also belonged to several Bridge Clubs and was a multi-year election poll volunteer. As a young woman, Kay was a model and appeared in newspapers and fashion shows. Kay was featured several times in the La Crosse Tribune for her traditional Christmas family room decor and the seasonally styled ‘bicycle’ in the front yard on Main street. She was an avid Packer fan with a fanatically decorated ‘Packer Den” which was filled to capacity with family and friends for Sunday Packer games. She loved to shop and had a colorful worldly collection of shoes. She continued to exercise into her 90th year with walking, calisthenics, Zumba and Tai Chi.
She is survived by children Kim (Tony) Nimmo of Onalaska, Norbert (Debora) Nix of Nashville, Mary Kay (Gary) Lind of La Crosse, Eddy Nix of Viroqua and Michael Nix of Grand Haven, MI, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Pam Brazelton and Mike Modeen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Maurice Nagle, sister Irene Modeen, sister Jean Modeen and brother Jim Nagle.
Kay was a member of the UWL La Crosse Exercise and Health Program for 18 years. A Memorial and Honor Fund is set up in Kay’s name for general student scholarships. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. Peter Raj will officiate with entombment to be held in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in Catholic Cemetery. Kay’s motto was “Don’t forget to enjoy life, and laugh a lot!”
