Marion L. Kohlhaus-Dunn, 91, of La Crosse, Wis., died Monday, April 16, 2018, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, Wis. She was born in Rockland, WI, on June 19, 1926, to Adolph Jr. and Lois (Schroeder) Kohlhaus. She married Robert William Dunn on August 26, 1950 in La Crosse, WI.
She graduated from both UWL and Viterbo Colleges, where she studied in music and science. Marion’s love for piano started at an early age and she was a talented pianist and musician. She shared this talent in many ways through early school band involvement to teaching at Viterbo College, and quickly became a patron of the music and arts. She continued this passion as a musician by playing piano and singing with many local bands which included The Stardust Big Band, (Cheers), Da Capo and The Grumpy Old Men. She was a member of several societies and organizations which included The La Crosse Jazz Society, La Crosse Choral Union, Sweet Adeline, VFW and so many more. She was also a patron and supporter of many local and international charities such as the Humane Society, ASPCA, Public Radio and the American Federation of Musicians. In addition to these many accomplishments she was a staunch supporter of the Kennedys during their early campaigns, on their committee, holding numerous tea parties in their support, and highly recognized for this by President Kennedy and his staff.
Marion was the last survivor of the Kohlhaus family, historic in the area for lumber manufacturing and were Co-founders of Segelke-Kohlhaus in the early 1900’s.
She is survived by four children, Mark S. Dunn of La Crosse, Matt T. Dunn of La Crosse, Michele R. Dunn of La Crosse, Holly (Dan) Yeakley of Monroe-NC; nine grandchildren, Adria L., Nick R., Mandy M., Nathan T., Stephanie N., Tyler P., Lindsey N., Matthew K., Heather N., and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Adolph Jr. and Lois Kohlhaus, husband Robert W. Dunn and five children; Gregory R., John P., Mitchell J., Mary H. and Michael G.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in Rockland United Methodist Church, 106 East Main St., Rockland, Wis. Rev. Paul Messmer will officiate with burial to be held in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. on Monday. Family and friends may also visit from 9:00 AM, until the time of services in the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rockland United Methodist Church, The National Wildlife Federation or the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.)
