Margaret P. Stubler (Shay), age 75, of La Crosse returned home to the LORD December 29, 2020 after a short battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was blessed to have nearly 20 additional years after two previous breast cancer diagnoses which allowed her to find love again late in life with John C. Stubler. John and Margaret were married on August 31, 2019.
Margaret was born in Peoria, Illinois to Paul Holford and Hilda Frank (Watters). Paul died before she was born. Her stepfather, George Frank, was the man she considered to be her father.
Margaret was very proud and received great joy from her work as a caregiver for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Retirement allowed her to spend her time volunteering with various groups. Margaret took pleasure in singing with the Variety Singers, where she met the love of her life, and the Blessed Sacrament Choir. She enjoyed spending time with the residents at Carroll Heights Apartments and Hillview Health Care Center when serving coffee and meals. She was a Catholic Daughters Secretary, District 2 President of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), and was actively involved with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1530. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was proud sharing in her children’s accomplishments.
In addition to her husband, John, Margaret is survived by her mother: Hilda Frank (Watters); three children: Richard Shay, Tonia (Duane) Genz, Linda (Andy) Stargard; three grandchildren: Cheyenne Sackmaster, Joshua Genz and Jacob Genz; and two great grandchildren: Cayden and Calea.
