M. Lucille Swing, 97, of La Crosse, WI, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in the home of her daughter, Jeanne, surrounded in prayer by her six children and extended family. She was born the first of four children in Caledonia, MN, to Michael and Agnes (McDonald) Clifford. She married Robert Swing, Sr. on June 19, 1941, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse.

 

Lucille attended St. John’s Grade School and Loretto High School in Caledonia, and then she attended the Wisconsin Business School and graduated in 1934. Lucille was employed as an executive secretary for Grams & Sons, the Trane Company, the War Department in Washington, D.C. and later the “Times Review” of the Diocese of       La Crosse.

 

She is survived by six children: Father John Swing, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Nekoosa and St. Alexander’s Parish, Port Edwards, WI, Mary Kay (William) Bowers of Nashville, Tenn., Jeanne (Stephen) Pavela of La Crosse, Bill (Laurie) Swing of Maple Plain, MN, Margaret Ann (Dennis) Clifford of Germantown, MD, and Patti (Steve) Reagles of Mankato, MN, one brother, Joe Clifford, of Caledonia, 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1994, a sister, Rita (Clifford) Loushine, in 2004, and a sister, Evelyn Clifford, in 1989.

 

A funeral Mass in Hope of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, The Feast of St. Joseph, in Mary, Mother of the Church parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse.  Entombment will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. S., La Crosse, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Rosary to be held at 5:00 p.m. and a Vigil prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed prior to Mass in the Church on Monday.

 

The Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Memorials are preferred to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe or Mary, Mother of the Church parish.
