Lois Buchner, age 86, of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Hillview Care Center. She was born November 18, 1937 in La Crosse to Fredrick and Marie (Stegeman) Herman. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran grade school and graduated from Bangor High School in 1955.

On June 22, 1957, Lois married Bernard (Ben) Buchner. They were married 64 years and had seven children together. She enjoyed her roles as homemaker, mom, grandma, and great grandma. Lois loved to read, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed politics, and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed camping trips with Ben, especially to Canada, the Dakotas, Lake Superior, and the Bayfield area.   

Lois was a member of St. James the Less Catholic Church and served with the funeral lunch group. She also volunteered for the Family and Children’s Center, baking many birthday cakes for children in need.

Lois is survived by her children, Gerianne Wettstein, Sandra (Alan) Alden, Thomas (fiancé Kathryn Wisco), Angela Young (Flip Morse), Michele (Joel) Eby, Joseph Buchner, and Dana (Greg) Hinn; grandchildren, Jaime (Michael) Erickson, Jordana (Adam) Stark, Jarrod Wettstein, Hillary Williams, Benjamin (Jenna) Alden, Tommy (Casey) Buchner, Megan (Brandon) McHugh, Kendal (Miranda) and Cameron Young, Erika (Randy) and Nathan Eby, Lane, Vincent, and Silas Buchner, Madelyn and Annalise Davies; and great-grandchildren Emma Wittenberg-Buchner and Haylie Buchner, Addison and Cooper Stark, Devyn and Ethan Williams, Henry, Elise, and Cecilia Alden, London and Lucca Young, and Jameson and Logan McHugh.

She is survived by her sisters, Delores Coburn and Carol Liefke; sisters-in-law Eileen Herman, Elaine Doyle, Phyllis Buchner, Elaine Buchner, Diana Buchner, Marietta Seaquist; and brothers-in-law Orville Buchner, Pat Doyle, Marlin Buchner, and Gary Buchner, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben; her sisters, Hazel Miller, Joyce Adams, and Harriet Bohl, her brother Everett Herman; and brothers-in-law Gofland Miller, Frank Coburn, Merlin Adams, Carol Liefke, Virgil Bohl, Virgil Buchner, and Gordon Buchner; nephews, John Buchner, Tim Doyle, and Wayne Bohl; nieces, Barbara Kendhammer, and Dee Ann Gray; along with very special friends, Virginia Bernd and Mary Lea Yeomans.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Hillview Care Center and Mayo Hospice of La Crosse for their kindness and compassion.

Friends may gather to celebrate Lois on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 4pm- 7pm, at Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home 1501 West Ave S in La crosse, WI.
