Lo-ken Chang

August 27, 1936 — May 20, 2024

La Crosse

On Monday 5/20/24 at 8:55pm, our dear father Lo-ken ‘Johnny’ Chang passed away peacefully at home - seven years after suffering from a ruptured brain aneurysm, which left him with debilitating dementia.

We were fortunate to be able to care for him in the comfort of his own home. He is survived by his wife, Lin “Echo”, of 60 years and 5 children.

He was a proud, stoic, and hardworking man of very few words (my mother does all the talking for both). He showed his love through food and hard work, providing us the best life possible as an immigrant with very basic language skills. In less than four years, he took ownership of a Peking Restaurant in little La Crosse, WI from 1985 until 2012. As the only family operated Chinese restaurant in town, with dedicated help from his wife and children, my father cooked for many generation of family members. Many are present today to pay their respects.

He’s in a better place now in the company of his brother George, parents and fur grandchild Zico…He able to eat freely, walk/run and laugh loudly. We will miss him terribly. Thank you pa for all your hard work, and for instilling in us your work ethic, family, loyalty, and duty.
