Joyce E. Striegel, 80, of La Crosse passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Mayo Health System in La Crosse.
She was born in La Crosse on Feb. 2, 1933, to Harold and Doris (Dingeldein) Hauser. She married Henry “Hank†Striegel on Nov. 6, 1954, at St John’s Catholic Church in La Crosse. She attended local schools and graduated from Logan High School in 1950. She worked as a bookkeeper at Clason Pontiac until her retirement in 1998.
Joyce had a passion for the Green Bay Packers, reading biographies and mysteries, doing challenging crossword puzzles, and crocheting. She was an active member of the Eagles Club and treasurer for the Eagles REAC group, delivered Meals On Wheels, and volunteered in the Ladies’ Auxiliary serving funeral lunches at St. James the Less Catholic Church. Above all, Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it be going out to dinner, heading up north to Rice Lake, traveling on bus trips with Hank, spending girls’ weekends with her daughters, or attending family picnics, bonfires and other get-togethers with her children and grandchildren. Her sense of humor, her clever wit, and her mischievous nature made her lots of fun to be around. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Joyce is lovingly survived by her husband and best friend of 59 years, Hank Striegel of La Crosse; five children, Bonnie Striegel (Jan Case), Mike (Sherry) Striegel, Jean (Jeff) Worth, Donald (Linda) Striegel, and David (Bobbi Jo) Striegel; one son-in-law, Keith Nolte; eleven grandchildren, Brent (DJ Ehrike), Keith Jr. (Tiffany) and Emily Nolte (Mike Nelson), Kim (Anthony) Novak, Bryan (Megan) Striegel, John (Brittany Burton), Jennifer, and Jessica Striegel, Jada Leisgang, Shandra and Amanda Striegel; and nine great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She is further survived by four nephews, Clayton (Sharron) Hauser, Richard (Sue), William (Lisa) Hauser, Brian (Debbie) Hauser; one niece, Sallie (Tim) Schrader; her aunt, Ruby Thompson; and her sister-in-law, Joan Hauser.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James H. Hauser; one daughter, Sue A. Nolte; and a nephew, Ronald Hauser.
