John H. Harter

August 14, 1932 — July 11, 2017

John “Jack” H. Harter, 84, of French Island, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, in Hillview Health Care Center. He was born in Sparta, Wis., on August 14, 1932, to Casper and Gertrude (Bock) Harter. Jack married Joann Potaracke on August 6, 1955, in St. James the Less Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Joann; his children Jeann (Jim) Stolpa, Joseph (Vicki) Harter, John (Susan) Harter, Julie Harter, James (Nanette) Harter, Jay (Lisa) Harter, and Many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was also survived by many extended family members and friends.

He was a Proud Veteran of the Korean War. A Member of the Roy L. Vingers, American Legion, Post No. 52, and Member of the Forty and Eight, where he was Chef de Gare. He worked at Trane Company for 40 years, where he retired. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports. He also enjoyed helping his children and family with building projects and plucking chickens.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM., on Saturday, July 15th, 2017, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. James Altman will officiate with Military Honors performed by the Roy L. Vingers, American Legion, Post No. 52 Honor Guard. Family and Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at Church on Saturday.

Entombment will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the Catholic Cemetery, in La Crosse, Wis.

Following  Mass there will be a gathering held at the Roy L. Vingers, American Legion, Post No. 52, at 711 S. 6th Street.
