Joan R Geary, 86, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

Joan was born in La Crosse on June 20, 1929, to Herman and Lyla Bosanny.  Joan graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1947.  Continuing her education, in 1951 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse majoring in Physical Education and Science and minoring in History and Library Science.  On Easter Sunday in 1951, Joan married Kenneth E. Geary, of La Crosse, Wis. They enjoyed 56 years together.  Joan coached and taught students in various school districts throughout her 40 year career, including Gillett, Baldwin, La Crosse, Independence, and Holmen, Wis.  Joan loved spending time with her family and friends, antiquing, fishing, beading, crocheting, and playing bridge.  In retirement, she and Ken traveled the U.S. and abroad.

She is survived by her children Lisa (Lloyd) Kirk of Lenexa, KS, Todd (Lynn) Geary of Holmen, Wis., and Ted (Julie) Geary of Marshall, Minn., as well as her Sister Judy (Milt) Blankenship of Florida and brother Jim Bosanny.  Joan is also survived by her six grandchildren, Chris, Corey, Jenny, Michael, Erin and Benjamin Geary.

Proceeding Joan in death are her husband Kenneth and sisters Joyce Steinmetz and Jean Halberg.

A service is planned in celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29^th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill Street, La Crosse, Wis.,  Rev. Erik Freig will officiate. The family will be available to share memories at 10:00 a.m.
