died Sunday  at his home with his wife and son beside him as a result of mesothelioma. He married Ann Strittmater on February 14, 1978 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Al was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of Okinawa as well as being part of the occupation force in Korea following the war’s end. He also recorded three holes-in-one. Al was a life-long member of the Palmetto Pines Country Club in Cape Coral.
He was a member of the La Crosse Builders Exchange and of Plasterers Union 257; He formed Badger Plastering in 1961 and retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife Ann, Â of Janesville, WI, Jean (Tim) Neller, of Chula Vista, CA; step-children: Cheryl Ross of Rawlins, WY and Brian (Shelley) Kirkeeng of Buffalo, WY; grandchildren: Paul (Ashley) Giese, Michelle (Mike) Walden, Shauna (Alan) Mangapit, Alyson Merz, Lori (David) Ward, Angie Patridge; step-grandchildren: Chelcie and Katie Ross, Chance and Brianna Kirkeeng; a special niece, Carol Bartz , nephews, Jim, Richard, Wayne and Ron Bartz; sister Phyllis Bartz of Plainview, MN.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Bartz. will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.  from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. with a Masonic Service at p.m. and also on Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services.
 He touched many hearts with his humor and wisdom.
Memorials may be given to the Gundersen-Lutheran Foundation.
