Hengel, Edward J. Sr.
Edward J. Hengel Sr., 88, of La Crosse was reunited with the love of his life Monday, May, 21, 2012. He was born in La Crosse, WI on Sept. 16, 1923, to Joseph and Hildegard (Buchner) Hengel. He was a graduate of Aquinas High School Class of 1940. Ed served our country in the US Air Force during World War II. He worked as a self employed plumber owning and operating Ed Hengel Plumbing until selling his business in 1996. He met the “love of his lifeâ€, RoseMarie K. Sobotta, in 1951. They were married May 17, 1952. Ed and RoseMarie loved to spend time together at their cottage on Shore Acres and enjoyed curling for many years.  Ed had a passion for animals of all kinds. His greatest love and devotion was to his wife and family.
He is survived by his three children, Kathie Rose Hengel, Ed (Nancy) Hengel Jr., and Dave (Jill) Hengel. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Katina Rose, Ann, Patrick, Danica, and Max. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph B. Hengel Jr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, RoseMarie, on Dec. 17, 2010, his parents, two sisters, Patricia and Ramona, and one brother, John.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Church, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Rev. Delbert Malin will officiate with entombment to be held at a later date. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 PM . Family and friends may also call from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass in the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, Gundersen Lutheran, the Humane Society, or  the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, La Crosse, WI.
