Donald E. Oldenburg, 84, of La Crosse died Tuesday July 31, 2012, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital. Â He was born on May 2, 1928 in La Crosse to John A. and Louise B. (Durhammer) Oldenburg. Â Don was a very proud father, and grandfather, who cherished his family. Â Don always saw the full potential in everyone and encouraged them to achieve all that they could.

Don served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 114th Combat Engineers Battalion and was a member of the Carpenter`s Union Local 1143. Â Don worked as a union organizer for the Carpenter`s union and also served as a Business Agent for the Carpenter`s local 1143.

He is survived by his children, William (Sheila) Oldenburg, David Oldenburg, Linda (Tomas) Oldenburg, James (Kim) Oldenburg, Steven (Kathy) Oldenburg and Karl (Darby) Oldenburg; four grandchildren, Laura, Marie, Abby and Nick; and many cousins. Â He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John J. Oldenburg.

Funeral services were held at 5:00 PM Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. Burial will be held Friday August 3, 2012 at Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis., at 10:00 AM. Condolences may be sent to Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home.
