Dean A. Slindee

Dean Allen Slindee, 75, of La Crosse, died Friday October 20, 2023 at Gundersen Medical Center.

Dean was born May 19, 1948 in Waukon, Iowa to Carl and Alice (Pfiffner) Slindee.  Dean graduated from St. George High School in Lansing, Iowa and the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse.  He married Mary (Kathy) Peterson on August 24, 1991 in La Crosse.

Dean was a computer programmer, sharing his expertise with Lansing Button Company, Trane, Dairyland Power, Management Computer Services, Firstlogic and La Crosse County.  He loved solving technical challenges; retiring in 2018.

Dean was an avid/excellent woodworker who built his own designs.  Music was also his passion; an expert in rock and roll trivia, he hand built stereo turntables seeking perfect vinyl sound.  He liked unique rocks and hid his soft spot for cats.

An intelligent, quiet, intensely private soul, Dean would not always say what he felt, but one knew as he would do something for you quietly.  He and his son, Andrew did projects together (Eagle Scout) or would play/do chores.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. South. The Rev. Mark Bartusch will officiate.  Visitation will be at 1:00 PM until the service.  A private interment will take place at a later date.

Dean is survived by his wife, son Andrew, sisters Marie and Diane (Bill) Habjan, and nephews Matthew (Jessica) and Eric Habjan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Brian.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dean’s name may be directed to the Coulee Region Humane Society or WAFER Food Pantry.
