Charlotte L. Nesseth, 93, of La Crosse, Wis., was born to Eternal Life on July 25, 2015. She began her life July 20, 1922 born to Charles and Josephine (Bahr) Pierce in Onalaska, WI. She attended schools in La Crosse, graduating from Aquinas in 1940. Charlotte was trained in Occupational Therapy and worked in County and State institutions. The last 25 years of her career she worked at the V.A. Hospital in Tomah.
She married Wilbert Nesseth on April 27, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1964 as well as her son, David in 1974. While living in Tomah she was a very active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In ‘79 and ’80 she completed Lay Ministry classes. She was a member of the church choir and also the Diocesan choir. She presided as President of St. Mary’s Court of National Catholic Society of Foresters for 27 years. After retiring, she moved to La Crosse and became an active volunteer at both St. Francis and Gundersen Lutheran Hospitals. Starting in 1987, she became Coordinator of the Liturgy and Sacristan at the Cathedral serving in this capacity for 25 years. She was a past member of the Foundation Board of St. Francis and a member of the Serra Club of La Crosse and was a Prayer Affiliate of Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. She was also a member of Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
Charlotte is survived by one son John (Kathy) of Elm Grove, WI, three grandchildren: Capt. David (Ashley) of Ewa Beach, HI, Eric of Elm Grove, WI, Stacey Townsend of Lumberton, N.C. and one great granddaughter Lilly. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Roesler of La Crosse. Besides her husband and son, she was predeceased by two sisters, Wilma Zander Jenkins and Marie Amundson, and five brothers George, Franklin, Charles, Donald, and Thomas Pierce and four sister-in-laws Florence, Myrtle, Dorothy and Irene Pierce. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Dorothy Pierce along with many nieces and nephews and many friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, July 31, 2015, in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse, Wis. Msgr. Mark Pierce will officiate with private burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tomah, Wis. Family and friends may visit from 1:30 PM until the time of Mass in the Cathedral on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, Charlotte requested memorial donations to St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral Parish Food Pantry or Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Ministry Fund.
